A contrast between appearance and reality, this video is an examination of the duplicity of roles each person living with a mental illness plays in both their own lives and in society. This video examines the effect of the social labelling of people 'as and by' the mental illness they face, with the take-home that people are 'people first'. I created this video after a friend of mine was diagnosed with a mental illness and I watched first-hand the way in which people around her started to alienate her. Stigma against those living with a mental illness is a very real thing, and it can sometimes be one of the biggest obstacles to overcome in recovery. Please enjoy, reflect and share.
