Create a Scenario Summary report Here I have the Sales Quantity which is 200, I have the Price per Unit as 100, the Fixed Cost as 400, and the Variable Cost per unit as 40. So using these four variables, I can calculate the overall profit. To do that, I multiply sales quantity by the price per unit and I subtract fixed cost and variable cost, which would again be multiplied by the same quantity because this is per unit cost. So if you go down and click on Cell B6 which is PROFIT and Press F2 from your computer keyboard, it will take you to the edit mode where you would see all these formulas as B2 multiplied by B3,i.e Sales Multiplied By Price, Minus the Fixed Cost, Minus the Variable Cost, Which Is again 40 Multiplied By 200. So this as of now gives us the profit as 11,600. Now, if you want to change one or two variables and see how it impacts in the profitability, and if you want to create scenarios where you are trying to see how your different scenarios can look like when your sales quantity changes or when your price per unit changes, then you can use a scenario manager. To do that, go to DATA, then What-If Analysis, and within this select Scenario Manager. Note: Scenario Manager is a better version of one or two variable data table because it can handle more than three or more variables changing at the same time. So here, for example, let’s say I want to check it for three scenarios, I would choose the Worst Scenario, a Base Case Scenario, and the Best Possible Scenario. So to add these scenarios, I will click on the Add button. And here I would give let's say I give the name as Worst Case. In this case, I would make some changes in these three cells which are Sales Quantity, Price per Unit, and Variable Cost per Unit. Fixed costs remain the same. So I've to select these three cells. If you have more cells, then you can select them as well. And here you can put in any comment and I am not putting any comment and I'll leave this part as it is. And I would click OK. And as soon as I click OK, it opens the Scenario Values Dialog Box where I would have to specify these values. In this case, you can see that it says B2, B3, and B5 which are the variables that we have selected. And this is not very descriptive. If you like you can name these cells and then those names would appear here. If you have more than three or four variables, then you also get a scroll bar around here so that in case you have more values, you can scroll and put those values. In this case which is Worst Case Scenario. Let’s say the Sales would not be 200, it will be 100 and B3, which is Price per Unit would be 60. And the variable cost say may go up to 70. So now when I click OK, it adds the Worst Case Scenario. And if you want to see how the worst case scenario would look here, simply double click on it. And as soon as you double click you can see that these values will change, the sales quantity becomes 100 price per unit at 60 and variable cost again is 70. So here I'm making a loss of -1400, whatever it is, either in dollar or pound, I’m making a loss of -1400. I can add more scenarios. So let me say Base Case. And here again, Cell B2, B3 &B5 still remain the same, I don’t want to change it. I would click OK. Then it opens a Scenario Values dialogue box. I would give the original values which I had here earlier in cell B2 as 200, the price would be 100 and the variable cost would be 40.
