The gear/ shifting lever broke on a 2003 Tundra automatic. The video is the re-installation of the steering shaft and all the accessories plus the wheel and airbag. This will give you an idea about the procedure required to access the Tilt/ Gearshift Assembly. ***WARNING: Remove both battery terminals before attempting anything. Wait approximately 10-15 mins. to let the airbag capacitor discharge any electrical current that will be saved inside of it or the airbag could deploy on you.** Parts: 33501-0c011 shaft sub-assy, c ~$60-81 45859-07010 support, tilt ste ~$39-52 Tools- 1. Steering wheel puller 2. Torque/ Star sockets (Male) 3. External Torque/ Star sockets (Female) 4. Metric Sockets 5. Phillips head screw driver 6. Small slide hammer or flat pry bar 7. Flat head screw driver or a small metal chisel 8. Punch (re-installation) 9. Hammer (re-installation) 10. Marker or pencil Instructions: 1. 3 Phillips head screws hold the 2 piece plastic steering wheel column in place. 1 in the bottom and 2 behind the steering wheel. (turn the wheel to access them). And then remove covers by separating the top and bottom. Leave the top on the shift lever until you remove the female torque screw and unplug the shift lever. Then you can remove the top cover correctly. 2. 2 plastic covers on each side of the steering wheel need to be popped off. 2 female torque screws hold the airbag on. (1 on each side) Do not try to remove the screws completely. There is a plastic guide that will hold them after they have been unscrew enough to pull the airbag out. Disconnect the 2 power plugs. (pull the yellow tab up slightly, then remove center red plug.) 3. Remove the nut in the middle of the wheel. Mark the position of the wheel on the steering shaft. do a straight line on top from the metal on the steering wheel and the continue onto the threaded steering shaft. 4. Use the steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. (do not try to hammer it) 5. Disconnect all the power plugs from under the clock spring and accessory wands. 6. Remove the 4 Phillips head screws that hold the clock spring in place. Do not spin or rotate the clock spring. Leave the two arrows pointing at each other (you must install with the arrows pointing at each other or the airbag will not function). Slide off steering shaft. 7. Remove 3 Phillips head screws from the accessory wand assembly. 2 on top and 1 on the bottom. Slide off steering shaft. 8. Remove 2 female torque screws from the retaining plate. Slide off steering shaft. 9. Remove the 3 female torque screws that hold on the gear shifter lever assembly. Pry of the shift link and unscrew the braided tension cable. 10. Use the flat head screw driver to push the aluminum tabs off the hinge pins. Screw the correct diameter and thread pitch screw into the hinge pin as far as you can. Which is not that far. Use the flat pry bar or slide hammer to pull out the hinge pin with the inserted screw. 11. Remove the tilt wheel spring and spring guide by pulling up on the shaft and using a flat head to remove the spring. (be careful when removing. The spring is under pressure.) 12. Unlock the steering wheel with the key. Loosen the Universal Joint screw and remove the steering shaft by gently jiggling it. 13. Remove the 4 male torque screws form the tilt assembly rear bracket. Remove bracket. The new bracket is not tapped (threaded) in the hole for the gear shift lever bracket to attach. Tap if with the screw that is suppose to go in that spot (do this before you install it on the shaft). Make sure you tap it straight in (to ensure even pressure on the bracket). Watch the video for the installation. Good Luck!!!... =)
