"I'm here, because you're here." This is what Matthew Lopez's mom, a breast cancer survivor would tell him every day during and after her battle with stage III breast cancer. This talk challenges you to be a part of a struggling person's journey to recovery. Being a source of support for a cancer patient can be part of their treatment. Matthew Lopez was born in Baltimore, MD and lived in Charles Town, West Virginia for 12 years before moving to Tomball, Texas in 2014. After graduating from Tomball Memorial High School, he is now a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry at Houston Baptist University. One of the most impactful events in his life was seeing his mother fight and win against breast cancer, who has now been in remission for 2 years. Matthew’s passion in life is medicine and he uses this event as motivation to push through undergraduate school and succeed in medical school to be a doctor to help others as a family practitioner. Another passion in his life is his faith, as he is a leader in HBU Baptist Student Ministries, where he leads a small group of freshman in bible study, guiding them through their faith and relationship in Christ. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
