Welcome to HurryUp Homestead!! After months of planning we are off and running on the homestead. We put together a good team of guys to HurryUp and get some projects done. We have Drew. Carpenter and motor guy. Zach, General labor, gardening and entertainment. Scott, labor and knowledge. (This guys is a vault of info.) Kennith will supply labor and farfetched solutions. Jared, the solar tech guy!! And of course Warner, with his contagous silliness and penchant for recreation. With an eye to future projects we have a bunch of goals for this trip. Building the generator shed - We have lots of projects coming up on the Homestead including building the container house. Most of these projects will require power, and no just charged tool batteries, and so building a shed to house the generators so that we can have consistent and continuous power is a must. Having acquired a small 'shed in a box' frame a few years ago seems like an excellent solution. The frame will need to be both secure and weather resistant. Establishing Irrigation - Having found a source for purchasable water a few months ago has changed the game on the homestead. We are now able to irrigate plants and trees and mix our own concrete. Gardens and shade trees and an orchard and installing fences have now become actionable item, and not just wishes. I have been collecting irrigation equipment for a couple of years now, and so now its a matter of getting all of the pieces to fit together into a watering system. Trailer Repair - We have two trailers on the property. One is a 8'x4' dump trailer, like you might get at Harbor Freight. (Not sponsored.) The other trailer is a 5'x12' flatbed and built to handle much larger loads than the dump trailer. Both of the trailers need new flooring, but the large trailer is the target this trip. The large trailer needs a new floor, signal lights and some modifications to the side walls. Installing tail lights will save us money and allow us to drive longer distances without worrying about being ticketed for the lack thereof. I am quite tired of buying the magnetic trailer lights and then having to buy them again because a light fell of and got destroyed while driving. The floor of the trailer needs new wood. Since the trailer is 5' wide, the original flooring is pieced together to cover the entire trailer. The smaller sections have broken through in several spots and the full sheet sections are starting to show their age. We need to replace the entire floor. The side walls of he trailer also need to be taller. We need to be able to go and collect materials in bulk. Right now the sidewalls of the trailer allow materials to dump out over the sides and there is no rear gate to hold the materials in. Taller sides and a drop gate at 8' will make the trailer and absolute wonder tool to have on the homestead. The Camper - Being able to purchase a 26' camper last year was unexpected. Having it on the Homestead allows us to have a working fridge as well as sleeping space outside of the shipping containers, and a functional toilet!! In order for the Camper to do all of those things we will need to get it propane and electricity. So this trip we will be getting propane and power connected. Propane should be easy enough. To supply power to the camper we are going to build a solar wall. This will both protect the trailer from the elements and supply an est. 2800 watts of power. By the end of this trip we want to have power and propane connected and functional so that the fridge can run around the clock. Campgrounds - There is so much space out here on the homestead that it seems a shame to not use it for camping. Zach and Drew and Kennith have come down to test camp on the property. Since the property is pretty much flat we are going to have to figure out what we need to do to make camping a reality. Windbreaks will need to be planted. Fencing and trails and parking also need to be planned for. I must admit that sometimes the potential of this place is overwhelming. Everything that we want and plan for does not always happen. And we cannot do ALL of the things. We must be patient. #offgrid #hurryuphomestead #solar #outdoors #future #offgridliving #homestead
