This video is about how to divide and conquer the cataract using Y groove technique that I use for Routine Phacoemulsification surgey. The Y groove involves sculpting the nucleus in the shape of a Y (3 grooves joined in the centre to form a Y shape) following hydrodissection. This is followed by cracking along the arms of the Y and then removing the 3 pieces easily one at a time. It offers a quick, safe and easy way to divide and remove nuclei of different densities. Y Groove technique is a quick and safe technique that can be used routinely and successfully in all cataract cases with different grades of nucleus density and in cases with small pupils and floppy irides without or with the use of Malyugin Ring.
