'The Curse of Fenric' has always captured my imagination as one of the strongest stories of the Seventh Doctor's era, so when I received a request for a Seven and Ace song, this immediately came into my head. It's not as good as the song the Red Pills wrote about the episode, but hey ho. (You've got to listen to the Red Pills. Do it. Link here: • The Red Pills - The Curse of Fenric. Docto... ) Because Ace's emotions are all over the place at the end of the serial, and she seems to calm down quite quickly, it was difficult to know where to cool off on the melodrama. I hope this works. Perhaps trying to write a song after watching 'Les Miserables' wasn't the best idea - it gives off a bit of an 'On My Own' vibe. Partly because my recording equipment hates it when I sing loudly, and partly because my voice just isn't up to it, ballads never come out quite right. Ah well. Lyrics: Stay away from me. Don't you dare. I'm a social misfit, anyway; why should you care? Leave me alone! Leave me alone! You used me just like he did; you're just as bad as Fenric, I'll be a pawn in no one's game; no, I won't let you win again When overall there's so much to be lost. Leave me alone! Leave me alone! Where did he go? The kind professor, The stupid prat who doffed his hat Just like a gentleman with gentlemanly charm? I've come to think I never knew you. You're always hiding, not confiding in me, Always cos you think you'll do me harm. You can't count faith by numbers, You can't win wars with words, You can't treat me like I'm nothing, I've got nothing to say to you. But I can't stand by in silence; I won't keep secrets like your own, I'm not a kid; stop treating me Like I can't cope alone. I understand your clever motives, 'Cos I'm not blind; I think you'll find That I appreciate it's for the greater good. But if you think that I'll excuse it, Then think again; how could I when You tore my faith in two like no friend ever should? You can't count faith by numbers, You can't win wars with words, You can't treat me like I'm nothing, I've got nothing to say to you. But I can't stand by in silence; I won't keep secrets like your own, I'm not a kid; stop treating me Like I can't cope alone. You said days like crazy paving, before I learned the truth, Back when I was first invited to walk that path with you, But you made me walk it blindfold, Which I did without a fight. You knew about this all along and now I see the light. You can't count faith by numbers, You can't win wars with words, You can't treat me like I'm nothing, I've got nothing to say to you. But I can't stand by in silence; I won't keep secrets like your own, I'm not a kid; stop treating me Like I can't cope alone. You can't count faith by numbers, You can't win wars with words, You can't treat me like I'm nothing, I've got nothing to say to you. ... (c) 'Doctor Who' belongs to the BBC.
