IVIW2020: Growing the bio-economy: solutions for the sustainable supply of biomass & biofuels

Organised in partnership with the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) Bioenergy is the largest renewable energy source in use today and will contiue to be an essential component of the global energy transformation. IRENA's climate-safe scenario foresees that modern bioenergy use would need to quadruple. However, much of the potential for biomass use in energy has not yet materialised due to multiple challenges. Building on findings from the recent IRENA report ‘Reaching Zero with Renewables’, the session showcased best practices and innovative approaches around the world to secure sustainable biomass and to turn it into valuable feedstocks for energy and explored how these experiences can be replicated and further scaled-up.
