The Iron-Curtain between comunist countries and the West refrozen a little after 1956; not for a long time, however. Artists from Western countries started to come to Poland and made their succesful performances here (here - for JP). Among them, was a married in Katowice in 1936 couple of prominent singing artists: Jan Kiepura and Marta Eggerth. For Kiepura it was the first visit to Poland after 19 years and after the War which divided in two the world and the time with a special line. Their concert took place in Kraków (Cracow) in 1958; Kiepura was not only singing together with his wife but was also a master of the ceremony, with his special sense of humour, today much out of fashion. The concert was transmitted by radio and my father recorded it on the little tape machine called ...Tonette. A piece of this tape remained in a quite good condition. Kiepura - before singing - tries to explain to the public sense and message of the duet being by them performed. Photos presented are, however, much "younger": Kiepura from 1932, Eggerth - 1937; Polish weekly magazines; JP's, author of the video, collection.
