The Mount Rushmore of superheroes is typically depicted as the top four superheroes that have influenced the comic book genre forward. The mainstream popularity of the MCU has certainly swayed public opinion on who should be placed on that fourth spot, alongside Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Wonder Woman stands as the most iconic female superhero not just in DC Comics but in comics overall. Her role as a positive figure has elevated her to the status of icons like Batman and Superman, and she is also a founding member of the Justice League. Despite this, Warner Bros. doesn’t seem to have much faith in the character, as seen in the lack of an animated series and the numerous canceled projects before her DCEU film debut. Zack Snyder incorporated the theatrical debut of Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman, which also paved the way for future characters like The Flash and Aquaman. Wonder Woman has also been shown in DC Animation, featuring in Justice League Unlimited, the DC Animated Movie Universe based on the New 52, Injustice, and Young Justice. However, many aspects of her character are often overlooked in adaptations, such as the Wonder Girls, her villains like Circe and Dr. Psycho, and her deeper moral values. The upcoming Wonder Woman game by Monolith and James Gunn’s DCU reboot offer promising opportunities to explore her full mythos.
