This video is the thirteenth in a series that documents a trip taken in May 2022, in which we visited 16 of the Hebridean islands. This and 4 other episodes (13-17) are video diaries of places visited, scenery seen and roads driven on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles. This particular video covers our journey from Harris to Lewis, exploring the West Side, Ness, and the Butt of Lewis. Crossing the island’s interior peat moorlands we reach the West Side (the name given to settlements along the NW coast of the Isle of Lewis between Dell and Shawbost) and Ness, exploring, amongst other places, the Trussel Stone, the largest standing stone in Scotland; the Wobbly Dog, the Port of Ness with its harbour, Arnol blackhouse and the whale jawbone at Bragar The Butt of Lewis is the most northerly point of Lewis. The headland, claimed to be one of the windiest locations in the UK, is frequently battered by heavy swells and storms and is marked by the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse. Nearby is the village of Eoropie in Ness, where we visit St Moluag’s church and also the beach backed by dunes. Further videos from Lewis cover Callanais I,II and III, the island of Great Bernera, the south west of Lewis and Stornoway, the Iolaire Memorial, Point and our return trip to Ullapool. Music: 1.
