This blocked keratosis obturans removal procedure is performed by UK pioneer and world leading endoscopic ear wax removal specialist Mr Neel Raithatha (Consultant Audiologist) aka 'The Wax Whisperer’ at his clinic in Oadby, Leicester, UK. Keratosis obturans presents as hearing loss and usually acute, severe pain secondary to the accumulation of large plugs of desquamated keratin in the ear canal. The procedure in this video utilities the iCLEARscope® and Zoellner suction probe and also Crocodile Forceps. The forceps where not used in the first instance as the dead keratin was very soft and would just tear into little pieces when extracting. There was also a huge ear pimple near the entrance of the ear canal caused by the dead keratin. Removing keratosis obturans can be very challenging given the skin adhesions present. At times it was very difficult stabilising the iCLEARscope® as the keratosis was near the entrance of the ear canal (so I could not rest it inside the ear canal) and because I was having to vigorously pull and tug at it in order to extract.
