Roger Rossmeisl, born in Kiel, Germany in 1927, son to a jazz guitarist / luthier. He followed his father's footsteps and became a gifted luthier. When he first emigrated to the states in the 50s, he worked for Gibson. After Gibson, he moved to Rickenbacker where he was the designer of their iconic 300-series guitars and 4000-series bass guitars. If you know Rickenbacker, you know these are the instruments which put them on the map -and into the Beatles' hands. After Rickenbacker, he did a stint at Fender, designing their hollowbody Coronado guitars. By many accounts, he was a troubled man. The Coronado, despite being visually striking, was a flop. He returned to Germany and, according to many, drank heavily, dying in 1979 at the age of 52. I wrote this gentle pastorale motif with Rossmeisl in mind. I don't think he ever knew the reach of his vision and craft.
