Building A Little Free TIKI Library - A Moment of Tiki episode 83

Friends, I have long desired a Little Free Library. And, having developed an affinity for tiki, the notion took hold that any Little Free Library I construct should be of the tiki persuasion. I mulled this idea for several years until my wife, Lisa, announced that we needed a Little Free Library and that it would be a Good Thing for me to build one. I am here to testify that the result of this endeavour turned out to be neither little nor free to build! Like everything I do, I over-engineered it from the get-go and the build spiraled out of control. I always wanted an A-frame in my tiki space, so why not incorporate that design aesthetic into the library? Why not add this? Why not that? A bit of carved detail here wouldn’t hurt, would it? Pretty soon, a project I expected to take a few weeks had consumed an entire year of my life. Holy moly! This is the longest episode of A Moment of Tiki I have ever put together, and I am exhausted. I filmed. So. Much. Video. There are entire build sequences that I cut from the episode in a desperate attempt to keep it less than an hour. My lavalier mic died a slow death late in the game so I had to purchase a new one. I made mistakes, so many mistakes, most of which are retained in the video. I hope you folks find something of value here, some inspiration, no matter how small. This one was a heavy lift, no two ways about it, but in the end I kinda think it was worth it? I’m happy with the way it’s turned out and a couple of our neighbors have stopped to tell me they think it’s pretty cool. If any of you are ever in the neighborhood feel free to stop and take a book or leave a book. Don’t expect to find “Tiki Modern” in there, though—I check for that one regularly!
