The heat is on in Puglia...Sally is on a mission to create gravel mulch circles around 36 of the 50 young fruit and nut trees (pistachios, plums, cherries, hazelnuts, apricots, peach, walnut, sour cherries, mulberry) in an attempt to improve their chances of survival in the brutal heat of the Puglian countryside. It's a challenge we have because of only being able to be at La Bolla for half the year due to restrictions since Brexit, so all the trees need to be as resilient as possible to the heat without regular watering. To do the work, however, means getting up at 5am to start working at 5.30am, because temperatures are already reaching 30 degrees centigrade by 9am in early June! Join us as we demonstrate what we're doing and explain why we are doing it - based on our own learned experience rather than expertise or professional opinion, of course :-) Our website has more info about the our project at La Bolla: https://www.labollapuglia.co.uk. We'd be delighted if you subscribed for the 3-weekly future episodes about renovation of this beautiful original stone lamia, energy and water self-sufficiency, land management of the 4-acre olive and fruit orchard and drought-tolerant dry mediterranean gardening. We are also on Instagram at @LaBollaPuglia and love getting your comments and questions. #vlog #gardening #fruittrees #farming #puglia
