The Trust seeks and receives all relevant planning applications and gives feedback about many of them to Westminster Council. With the Trust’s guidance and support, many achievements have been secured including award-winning contemporary architecture, landscapes, sculpture and uses: Jay Joplin’s White Cube gallery in Mason’s Yard set in restored granite paving. One Eagle Place: a development by the Crown Estate working with Eric Parry Architects. The transformation of Babmaes Street, as part of a major development of RTZ’s premises, also facing St James’s Square. The Trust is actively engaged in preserving St. James’s for future generations to enjoy. It receives personal and financial support from a number of local residents and businesses and the Trustees give their time on a free and voluntary basis. Apart from professional advisers and administrative costs, overheads are very modest - around £80,000 p.a. (excluding studies). Donations are used to meet the expense of essential planning and legal advice. For example, the implications of the Licensing Act led to much expenditure in fighting unwelcome licensing applications. The Trust depends on the generosity of its supporters, and welcomes donations and legacies to help ensure St James's is preserved for all.
