This California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0654 MST (1 hr. & 27 min. late due to mechanical and electrical issues with #14). The 8-car train was pulled by P42s #148 & #14. It was brought to a stop with car 7 (coach) to the platform for service to 2 travelers stepping from the coach and 3 new fares boarding. As Sam finished the passenger work, the head end crew was checking the power issues with #14. From the sounds over the scanner, it wouldn't load up on the main alternator. A decision was made to shift the Head End Power (HEP) to the leading engine (#148) and continue to Denver where the mechanical crew could diagnose the problems and possibly correct it. With my camera battery running low and my fingers on the cool side of cold, I shut the camera off and came home as they could work the problem without my oversight. LOL! The train did depart for Union Station in Denver as I departed the depot here in Fort Morgan. My thanks to the operating crew for their greetings this morning.
