Tracking Hope Beneath the Waves: Satellite Tagging Fiji’s Hawksbill Turtles

Earlier this year, WWF-Fiji, in collaboration with WWF-New Caledonia, ‪@WorldWildlifeFund‬, dedicated local partners, and the community of Kavewa, successfully satellite-tagged 10 critically endangered Hawksbill turtles in Fiji’s north. Over ten months of tracking has revealed remarkable insights into their movements—showing that these turtles remain within Fiji’s waters, with many journeying south along the eastern side of Viti Levu while others stay close to Macuata. This short awareness video highlights how community-led conservation, science, and partnerships are working together to protect vital nesting, feeding, and migration habitats—contributing to national and global efforts to safeguard Hawksbill turtles, listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
