What is Process Discovery? What is Process Discovery? Process Discovery is a method of using tools and techniques to define analyze, map and document a company's computer-based processes and tasks. What are processes? Processes are what companies use to find the actions that create value for the organization. They are a series of tasks or user actions that are taken in order to achieve a particular business goal. What our "tasks" then? Tasks are just whatever make up the processes. They could be based on business process model notation. There's sub-processes, activities, tasks,  all those are made up of discrete user actions. So whatever click or entering data into a form or saving a document, those are discreet user actions and those all make up what are tasks. So why is all this important for process discovery? Why is it important that we're defining these terms? Well, Process discovery is important for automation. You need to be able to find the requirements of what you're trying to automate before you need to automate it. And, right now, from Ernst and Young, and robotic to 50 to 70% of automation pilots fail, 83% of bots fail according to Pega. And most of these things fail because the processes are not well understood. They fail to correctly document the requirements needed to do the automation. So you need to map your processes out before you can automate them. So why is this becoming even more important right now? Well, it goes beyond automation. It enables digital transformation and process improvement. At the beginning of your automation journey, you're not ready for automation, you need to figure out when, which process are and sometimes there's digital transformation, digital transformation efforts that go on and so you need to improve your processes, so that you're not automating inefficient work. And then Process Discovery can enable monitoring of KPIs and SLAs for your business with ongoing discovery and ongoing monitoring so that you can sure that you're hitting your business goals over time.
