Renal cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop in or on the kidneys. They are commonly classified as simple or complex. Simple renal cysts are usually benign, asymptomatic, and often discovered incidentally during imaging studies. They have thin walls, contain clear fluid, and do not enhance with contrast on imaging. These cysts are more prevalent with advancing age and generally require no treatment unless symptomatic. Complex cysts, on the other hand, may have septations, calcifications, or solid components, and they carry a small risk of malignancy. The Bosniak classification system, based on CT or MRI findings, helps categorize renal cysts and guide management. While Bosniak I and II cysts are benign, Bosniak III and IV may warrant surgical evaluation due to their potential malignancy risk. Most renal cysts are asymptomatic but can cause pain, hematuria, infection, or hypertension if large or complicated. Diagnosis is typically made using ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. In symptomatic cases or when malignancy cannot be excluded, treatment options include aspiration, sclerotherapy, or surgical excision. Polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a genetic disorder, involves multiple cysts and may lead to renal failure. Therefore, understanding the type and characteristics of renal cysts is essential for appropriate management and follow-up. #urology #doctor #urologist #doctorexplains #kidneydisease #healthtips #kidneyhealth #roboticsurgeon #renalcyst#kidneycyst#cyst #roboticsurgery
