How Scotland Took Over The Whisky Industry

Why is Scotch whisky so famous? I'm (kinda) a whisky guy, and loads of good whisky is from Scotland. Sure, there's plenty of other good stuff from around the world (my favorite is actually Nikka Coffey Malt from Japan) but Scotland is definitely known for its whisky! During a recent trip to Scotland I was wondering about all this stuff, so I dug a little deeper into the history of Scotch whisky and tried to find out why exactly it's such a big part of the country.
