Succumbing to protesters’ pressure, Bangladesh’s interim government led by Muhammed Yunus has banned all activities of the Awami League, the political party of deposed former PM Sheikh Hasina, under the country’s Anti-Terrorism Act. The decision, announced late Saturday, follows days of street protests led by the student-driven National Citizen Party, which emerged from last year’s uprising that toppled Hasina along with hardline Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami, demanding Awami League be designated a terrorist organization. The ban would remain in place until the trial of the party and its leadership over deaths of hundreds of protesters at the International Crimes Tribunal is completed, the interim government said in a statement. The government also announced an amendment to the ICT Act, allowing the tribunal to prosecute not only individuals but also political parties and organizations. The change clears the way for the Awami League to be tried as a collective entity for alleged crimes committed during its time in power. #Bangladesh #MuhammedYunus #PMSheikhHasina Subscribe to SouthAsia Newsline ► https://bit.ly/3pmDSR3 Don't forget to press THE BELL ICON to never miss any updates ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy and stay connected with us!! ☛ Visit our Official website: http://www.southasianewsline.com/ ☛ Subscribe us: https://bit.ly/3pmDSR3 ☛ Follow us: / sasianewsline ☛ Like us: / southasianewsline ☛ Official channel of South Asia Newsline - a weekday newscast ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- South Asia Newsline, India News, Pakistan News, Afghanistan News, Bangladesh News, Nepal News, Sri Lanka News, South Asia Weekday Bulletin, English News Bullletin
