Starting near Carvoeira, we tackle the hidden trails of the Lizandro Valley and climb up to the historic town of Mafra. The main reward? The incredible sight of the National Palace and Convent—a UNESCO marvel—and a much-needed coffee break with the local, legendary pastry: the Fradinho! Highlights of the Hike: Lizandro Valley: Following hidden, lush paths along the river, a true escape from the coast. Mafra Palace (Exterior): A walk right up to the colossal 18th-century National Palace and Convent, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. Pastelaria Fradinho: Savoring the local, bean-based Fradinho pastry right in the town center, a delicious taste of Mafra's conventual sweets heritage. Hidden Trails: Discovering quiet, local trails via Sra. de Arquiteto and a different route back past Sra. de O to complete the 20km loop.
