A pleasant floral base accompanied by peppery, salty, sweetness and herbal notes give this mild to medium strength cigar its unique complexity. Handmade in Costa Rica, the blend was not disclosed. However, it was created by Nelson Alfonso a Cuban artist who is well-known in the cigar world for doing the artwork and packaging for the Cohiba Behike brand. The Atabey Duendes is a limited-release luxury cigar that deserves a special place in your humidor. The name Atabey has ties to the Taino Indians and the cigar culture. It all began with Cohiba which referred to the circle the tribe would gather in to pray. They would offer their prayers to the leader known as Behike who in turn would deliver those prayers to the Goddess Atabey. Atabey Cigars comes to us from Nelson Alfonso and is made in Costa Rica where the blend is only known by a select few. Nelson Alfonso is the creative director for the Golden Age design firm which has handled the branding for Habanos, S.A. cigars. In addition, he was the designer behind Padron’s 50th Anniversary humidor. Alfonso is also a gifted cigar blender and founder of Atabey Cigars. Elegantly encased in glass tubes and packaging that is collector worthy, the Atabey cigar sports a beautiful Ecuadorian wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and filler for a mild to medium-bodied smoke. The Atabey has a pleasing floral base that is accented by a sweet and salty note. It's an incredibly smooth cigar with a flavor profile that is as perfect as they come. So much so that The Cigar Authority has awarded multiple sizes of the line a prestigious 100 rating. At the half way point the Atabey Duendes sees the complexity that Atabey is known for.
