The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured stakeholders of its readiness for the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, gave the assurance in Abuja while addressing a forum for media executives, producers, reporters and on-air personalities. Haruna disclosed that the Commission has acquired and batched all non-sensitive materials for the election across the six Area Councils, 62 wards and 2,822 polling units in the Territory,adding that sensitive materials, including ballot papers and result sheets, are being printed and will be collected on February 18.2026 Track up Also speaking, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aminu Idris urged journalists to ensure their coverage of the election is guided by the Constitution, electoral laws, INEC guidelines and professional ethics. Track up Other speakers, including the Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT chapter, Grace Ike, commended INEC for organising the forum and called for timely information dissemination and the safety of journalists covering the election.
