Established in the 15th century, Nunuku's Law embodies an extraordinary commitment to peace and stands as a powerful symbol of resilience. This indigenous customary law forbids violence among the Moriori people of Rēkohu (Chatham Islands, New Zealand). Despite enduring extensive external aggression, the Moriori have upheld their vow of non-violence, making it one of the world’s longest standing unbroken peace covenants. Today, the Covenant inspires Moriori cultural revival and serves as an exemplary model for intergenerational peacebuilding.
