🏃‍♂️ 7K POV Run Through Murton, South Hetton & Dalton Park | Scenic Evening Run & Local History Tour! 🌅 Welcome back to the channel! In tonight’s video (recorded Monday evening, 30/09/2025), I take you on a relaxed 7K easy run through some stunning parts of East Durham — all filmed POV style, so you can enjoy the route right alongside me! 👟 ROUTE OVERVIEW This scenic loop kicks off in my home village of Murton, winds its way through South Hetton, past the Jade Industrial Park, and finishes via the peaceful Dalton Park Trail Walk. Most of the run follows former railway lines turned into walking/biking/bridle tracks — perfect for a chilled evening jog. 🏞️ Along the way, I pass over the historic pit heaps, soaking in the local charm and history. Whether you’re here for the views, the running inspiration, or to learn more about this part of County Durham — there’s something for everyone! 📜 A LITTLE LOCAL HISTORY Murton was transformed in the 19th century from a tiny hamlet into a bustling pit village after the discovery of coal. Though the colliery closed in 1991, the community spirit remains strong, and the area is undergoing a modern revival. South Hetton also has deep mining roots, dating back to 1831, with a proud heritage tied to the coal industry. Dalton Park, now a popular retail hub, opened in 2003 and continues to evolve with new shops, a cinema, and even a fully accessible play area added in recent years. 🙋‍♂️ ABOUT ME I’m 13 weeks into my running journey after shedding over 5 stone in weight! I started with Couch to 5K and I’m now nearly done with my 10K training programme.
