My video is going to show you soup to nuts and hopefully be the complete guide on how to build a kicking legs prop for Halloween. This is a prop that is truly fun to build and fun to have in your yard. This is also a great project for using a bunch of scrap wood in your shop. It will teach you a bit about how you can use a rotating motor to make different movements. Just because the motor goes around and around in a circle does not mean your machine needs to move in a circle. This project will show you how to use a windshield wiper to create alternating up and down movement. You can set your scene in your yard as kid friendly as you want or go for full on gross. Most you see the classic scene of the kicking legs Halloween prop coming from under a lawn mower. Mine will be coming out of a large pumpkin carved to look like it is eating the man. You could go full on and do something like have fake guts coming out of the legs with a bunch of zombies or even rats appearing to be eating the top half. Maybe even add an audio loop to enhance the effect. Once you have learned this basic animation with a simple and inexpensive windshield wiper motor you will be able to apply it for many other applications. I’ve used a wiper motor for my skeleton escaping from an old trunk.
