Canada to keep Russia sanctions despite US move to ease them: Carney | FULL

Prime Minister Mark Carney, along with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, announced Canada and the Coalition of the Willing would keep Russia sanctions in place despite the United States decision to ease them. "There has been very tight cooperation between Russia and Iran at great cost to the People of Ukraine and a great threat to peace and security in Europe. And this group, under the leadership of the two gentlemen to my right and a broader coalition, the Coalition of the Willing, has stood up to that," he said. Carney also said that the U.S. can be trusted with security in the north because the defence systems in the Canadian North and the High Arctic are "fundamentally integrated" and there's a "level of trust for the system." He added that Canada was also taking "more control" and "responsibility" for the defence of the Arctic with "our closest allies" including Germany and Norway.
