In Mark 2, Jesus returns home and the crowds pack the house. People have heard about His miracles. They’ve seen His power. They want healing. They want signs. But Jesus is preaching the Word—because the Kingdom always begins with truth. Four determined friends bring a paralyzed man to Jesus. They refuse to quit when the crowd blocks the door. They climb the roof. They tear it open. They lower him down. And Jesus sees their faith. Then Jesus does something unexpected. Before addressing the man’s physical condition, He speaks to his soul: “Son, your sins are forgiven.” The crowd wanted a miracle. Jesus offers mercy. Because our deepest problem is not physical—it’s spiritual. We ask for relief. Jesus wants repentance. We want comfort. Jesus wants surrender. If God gave us everything we asked for without transforming our hearts, it would destroy us. The religious leaders understand exactly what Jesus is claiming. Only God can forgive sins. And Jesus doesn’t correct them—He proves it. To validate His authority, He heals the man publicly. But the visible miracle is not the greatest miracle. The forgiveness is. The real miracle is not that he walked out. The real miracle is that he walked out forgiven. Every body eventually fails. Every healed person eventually dies. But forgiveness lasts forever. When the body is gone, the soul remains. And the soul forgiven by Jesus stands secure for eternity. Jesus forgives first—because eternity matters more than temporary relief.
