#India #Itrump #Iran India finds itself at the centre of rapidly escalating global tensions as the United States, Israel, and Iran move closer to a wider conflict — with several developments unfolding in India’s strategic backyard. In a dramatic first since World War II, a US submarine torpedoed and sank the Iranian warship IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean, just days after the vessel had participated in Milan 2026 in Visakhapatnam as India’s guest. Members of the same crew had marched in ceremonial parades with sailors from across the world before the ship was struck off the coast near Sri Lanka. At least 32 sailors were rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy, while nearly 100 are feared dead, making it one of the most shocking naval incidents in recent history. At the same time, Washington is sending mixed signals to New Delhi. The US has "allowed" India a 30-day concession window on Russian oil purchases, even as it pushes partners to reduce dependence on Moscow. Meanwhile, Christopher Landau made a striking remark, saying India should understand that the United States will not repeat the same strategic mistakes with India that it made with China two decades ago — a comment widely interpreted as part of Washington’s effort to reshape its Indo-Pacific strategy. With the US-Israel military campaign against Iran expanding, shipping lanes, energy supplies, and regional security across the Indian Ocean and West Asia are increasingly at risk — all of which have direct implications for India’s diplomacy, energy security, and strategic autonomy. Is India being pulled into a new great-power contest — or is it successfully navigating a dangerous geopolitical moment? Barkha Dutt speaks to Amb Kanwal Sibal, Former Indian Foreign Secretary
