The future plans for the Esports Research Network ERQ8

This is a recording of the Esports Research Colloquium on November 17, 2021. The idea of this colloquium is to provide a forum for knowledge exchange, for networking, and for discussing research ideas. Lisa Völkel, Dr Julia Hiltscher, Dr Brian McCauley, and Dr Tobias Scholz talked about the Esports Research Network and its future. He is the Vice Chair of the Esports Research Network and hosts the Esports Research Report Podcast. Twitter:   / t0bs3n   LinkedIn:   / tobiasscholz   About the presentation: After the speakers briefly introduced themselves, they provided some information about the idea of the Esports Research Network and its development. In doing so, they highlighted the development of the Network since its foundation in July 2019 and its goals (such as connecting researchers around the world, achieving rigor and relevance in esports research, and creating a link between researchers and practitioners; see also https://esportsresearch.net/news/). The discussion with Lisa Völkel, Dr Julia Hiltscher, Dr Brian McCauley, and Dr Tobias Scholz addressed a number of different activities of the Network. These included aspects such as an online literature database on esports research (see https://esportsresearch.net/literature/), a discord channel to exchange information and collaborate, an esports conference (see https://ernconference.com/). It was also acknowledged that all opportunities provided by the Esports Research Network are free and not associated with any requirements or tasks. However, researchers and practitioners were invited to actively participate and get involved with the Network. Regarding the future of the Esports Research Network, the speakers discussed the idea of creating a diversity and equality committee, a graduate student committee, and a research grant committee. In addition, members could also engage in managing the literature database, provide website and social media support, or promote their own ideas such as this esports research colloquium. Finally, all speakers addressed where they want to see their Network in the next two years. The next colloquium hosted by Oliver Leis is taking place on December 8, at 9.30 am (CET).
