We start our walk in the charming village of Silverdale and head south along the coastline. Our first major stop is Jenny Brown’s Point, a striking headland jutting into Morecambe Bay. We take in the sweeping views of the bay, the distant Lakeland fells, and the tidal sands that stretch far out at low tide. From here, we can also see Walduck’s Wall, a 19th‑century attempt to reclaim land from Morecambe Bay. The idea was to create farmland by building a massive embankment extending out into the bay for around a mile and three quarters from Jenny Brown’s Point before cutting across the tidal sands toward Hest Bank. The project was led by Herbert J. Walduck, a Manchester metal broker, who envisioned enclosing thousands of acres of bay to earn profits from the fertile new farmland. We continue along the coast, where we come across the old copper smelting chimney, a solitary industrial relic rising above the marshland. Its weathered brickwork is a reminder of Silverdale’s 18th- and 19th-century industrial activity. From here, we turn inland and make our way to Woodwell, a natural spring that has long been part of Silverdale's history. The tranquil setting is perfect for a short rest, listening to the gentle flow of water and the sounds of the surrounding woodland. We continue onwards towards Cove Well to visit Shore Cave, tucked into the cliffs along the coastline. This hidden feature rewards careful exploration and adds a touch of adventure to the walk before we return to Silverdale, completing the circular route. Important!
