Summary of Every Named Demon in Frieren Explained: Qual — The Elder Sage of Corruption No discussion of every named demon in Frieren explained can begin without Qual, one of the most terrifying forces ever to serve the Demon King. Eighty years before the current timeline, Qual unleashed devastation across the Größe Forest so overwhelming that Frieren and the hero party were forced to seal him instead of killing him. Qual’s threat came from his genius-level sorcery. He invented Zoltraak, the first piercing spell in history—a concentrated beam of mana that erased anything in its path. During its era, no human defense spell could stop it, and the spell alone wiped out 40% of adventurers and 70% of sorcerers in the region. But after Qual’s defeat, the world studied his magic. In just a few years, mages reverse-engineered Zoltraak and turned it into demon-killing magic. He awakened to a world where his most powerful creation had become ordinary. Though Qual quickly analyzed modern defensive spells, the gap caused by eighty years of magical evolution was too great. The Demon King — The Apex of Demonkind Any list of every named demon in Frieren explained centers on the Demon King, ruler of demonkind and the ultimate target of Himmel’s hero party. For centuries, countless heroes—from anonymous warriors to the Hero of the South—challenged him and failed. His influence stretches back over a millennium, including ordering the near-extinction of elves. Frieren’s own village was destroyed under his command by Basalt the Throne. What made the Demon King uniquely dangerous wasn’t only his power but his obsession with coexistence. To “understand” humans, he conducted mass exterminations and territory seizures, reducing humanity’s influence by two-thirds. He also developed theories such as convergent evolution, teaching them to other Greater Demons. His mana was unmatched—far exceeding even the Seven Sages of Destruction. While most demons couldn’t detect Frieren’s mana suppression, the Demon King saw through it instantly. He even predicted that a consciousness from the distant future (Frieren) would appear via the Goddess’s Monument, showcasing prophetic-level awareness. Basalt the Throne — Destroyer of Frieren’s Village Next in every named demon in Frieren explained is Basalt, one of the Demon King’s generals. When ordered to exterminate the elves, Basalt carried out the slaughter personally, erasing Frieren’s entire village. Even the strongest elves stood no chance. Frieren survived only because Flamme arrived in time to find her barely clinging to life. Though Basalt seemed powerful, the story later reveals demons far above his level—demons that Flamme casually eliminated. Draht — Aura’s Reckless Executioner Draht was one of Aura the Guillotine’s executioners and a member of her supposed “peace envoy.” His mission was to infiltrate Graf Granat’s city by exploiting the barrier created by Flamme. Instead of following orders, Draht impulsively targeted Frieren, a fatal mistake. His magic allowed him to generate extremely sharp mana wires capable of instant decapitation. But when used on Frieren, she simply reinforced her neck with mana, exposing Draht’s inexperience. His panic and desperation sealed his fate as Frieren eliminated him with ease. Linie — The Demon Who Could Copy Anything Except True Strength Linie is another executioner under Aura and one of the most unique demons in every named demon in Frieren explained. Her magic, Erfassen, lets her replicate any combat technique she observes through mana flow. She copied Eisen’s legendary axe techniques and recognized those same movements in Stark.
