Dick Nite Spoons for Salmon
In this video, we go fishing on the Skagit River in Mount Vernon for Pink and Coho salmon. I tried floats and twitching jigs, Anjel tried drift fishing a #1 Dick Nite, which worked really well. It turned out that the humpy were so thick we couldn't even find a silver, but it was really good practice with a high finesse technique. She was equipped with an Okuma SST and a Shimano Symetre- spooled up with 30 pound power pro. Because these salmon are not line shy this low in the system, we were able to use 15 pound mono as leader material. A three way swivel attached the mainline to the leader, and an appropriate amount of pencil lead was added. We found that 1/4 ounce was all we needed in the slow shallow water- 3/4 was necessary for a more aggressive approach in the main river channel. Trolling and anchor techniques were incorporated with the little spoon.
