Visit with me Harat al-Siybani - a historic and picturesque old settlement located in Birkat Al Mouz, Oman. The settlement is renowned for its architectural charm and cultural significance, showcasing traditional Omani architecture and design. The area's narrow alleyways, ornate doors, and distinctive features offer visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history and heritage. As I walk the rock that forms the foundation of the village, I contemplate the lives led by its former inhabitants. Though now enveloped in a serene tranquility, this place undoubtedly thrived as a bustling center in bygone times. The presence of guard towers positioned atop and along the perimeter serves as a poignant reminder of the less peaceful times that once prevailed. Constructed predominantly from clay, the houses exhibit a unique architectural blend, with their lower levels intricately fashioned from rugged rock slabs. Amidst this landscape, numerous well-preserved dwellings boast ceilings adorned with intricate patterns crafted from palm fronds, palm leaf mats, and clay. Within these modestly sized houses I find rooms furnished with only the essentials: wooden chests, pegs for hanging garments, and shelves ingeniously hewn from rock slabs nestled into wall niches. This unique destination is a must-visit, but you need to hurry as each rainstorm claims a significant portion of this clay-and-rock settlement.
