It’s become synonymous with the culture of Vanderbilt University, showing caring and enthusiasm through service. On Move-In Day, that means hauling lots of boxes, clothes, mini fridges and “must haves” for the newest class moving into the Martha Rivers Ingram Commons. MOVE-IN BY THE NUMBERS • More than 1500 cars come through during move-in • Roughly 250 carts are used • 1200 volunteers (student & staff) help with Move-In NEW FACULTY LEADERS Some new and familiar faces are now calling the Ingram Commons home. Professor Gregory Melchor-Barz, who spent a decade as the faculty head of North House, is now the interim dean of the Ingram Commons. Melchor-Barz is chairs the Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology in Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. Professor of law and chemistry, Sean Seymore is the new faculty head of East House. Associate dean in the College of Arts & Science and a senior lecturer in earth and environmental sciences, Dan Morgan, is the new faculty head of Memorial House. And assistant professor in the School of Nursing, Natasha McClure, is the new faculty head of North House. EARTH-FRIENDLY MOVE-IN The VU Cardboard Crew will assist first-year students at the Commons with recycling their cardboard, styrofoam, and plastic film wrapping.
