In 1968, Joe and Sylvia Robinson opened All Platinum Records in Englewood, NJ just across the George Washington Bridge from Manhattan, NY. Their rough and ready productions contrasted sharply with the production gloss of Motown and created some of R&B's most memorable music. The Moments were a Hackensak, NJ band comprised of lead vocalist Billy Brown, Johnny Morgan, and Al Goodman when they signed with Stang Records after Producer/Artist Ed Townsend brought them to the label's attention in 1968. The name was chosen by Joe Robinson and was inspired by his Ford Mustang. "Love On A Two Way Street" was issued in 1970 and hit big becoming a #1 R&B hit spending five weeks at the top and two weeks at #3 on the Hot100. "Sexy Mama" from 1973, peaked #3 R&B and #17 pop, then a collaboration with Sylvia "Sho Nuff Boogie" was a #45 R&B single. 1974 brought them back to the charts paired up with Stang labelmates The Whatnauts, a band formed in Baltimore, MD in 1969. Their original lineup was Carlos 'Billy' Herndon, Garnett Jones, Gerard 'Chunky' Pinkney, Ray Mitchell and Tommy Fraling. They had four singles appear on the R&B charts, and their fifth was this collaboration with The Moments on "Girls". Released as a single in October, 1974, it failed to chart pop, peaked at #25 R&B but sailed to #3 on the UK charts. It also charted #12 disco in January, 1975.
