Sydney Addiction Seminars: Vaporised Nicotine for Smoking Cessation – Why and How?

In Australia the use of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) – or vaping - remains controversial, however three Australian medical colleges have now given support to ENDS for smoking cessation in cases where other treatments have failed. Vaping devices can be bought legally but nicotine has to be imported, which is illegal without a doctor’s prescription. Currently, few doctors prescribe nicotine liquid for ENDS. This seminar will look at the evidence for use of ENDS including safety issues, & in practical terms how to prescribe nicotine liquid & to advise sourcing the product. We will also discuss HARMONY, a NSW clinical trial of ENDS for smoking cessation in people receiving opioid treatment.
