We have taken a documented story and tried to place where the original stagecoach station was at Pine Springs. Pine Springs is on the Mogollon Rim north of Payson, Arizona and was a stagecoach stop. The stagecoach line ran from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Prescott, Arizona and both were territorial capitals in 1879 when the robbery occurred. The shipment of gold coins was supposed to be a secret shipment of three boxes of coins with each box containing $75,000 in gold coins. The four outlaws were killed at Pine Springs Stagecoach Station and the money was never recovered. The sheriff and his posse just happened to be in the area, unbeknownst to the outlaws, when the posse surrounded the stage station. A gun battle ensued and the outlaws were shot dead after the sheriff set fire to the station and they fled out the front door into a hail of lead. Let's see if we can find evidence to show that we are in the right area and maybe we can determine the location of where the stage station stood. Did the outlaws bury the gold coins under the stage station floor or did they hide it close by before the sheriff and his posse arrived?
