Sitting on display at Ford Park in Shreveport Louisiana is Dardanelle And Russellville #10. This locomotive is a 2-6-0 Mogul that was built in 1906 by Alco's Cooke Works for the Isthmian Canal Commission. The ICC was set up to oversee the construction of the Panama Canal and this locomotive was instrumental in the diggings. Following the canal's completion in 1914, the ICC was dissolved and the locomotive was sold to a scrap dealer in New Orleans before being acquired by the Dardanelle And Russellville Railroad in 1921. The locomotive worked on the D&R until 1956 when she was retired and sold to the Shreveport Civitan Club before being donated to the City Of Shreveport in 1958 and placed on display at Ford Park where it has remained ever since. As you can see exposure to the elements and general neglect from the city has left this locomotive in deplorable condition. I hope the city eventually gives this engine a cosmetic restoration soon because a locomotive like this deserves so much better. #train #railroad #railfan #steamlocomotive #railfaning #steamtrain #steamengines #steamengine #shreveportlouisiana #louisiana
