Trafficking in Persons is modern-day slavery and a global challenge. Statistics show that over 25-30 million people (women, children and man) are victims of TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS. Out of which nearly 50% are children. Every continent in the world has been involved in human trafficking. Around 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year and according to the United Nations, human trafficking affects every country in the world, but it’s not talked about enough. So, we’re talking about it. Trafficking in persons doesn’t happen all of a sudden. It’s a process! First traffickers ACT. This includes recruiting victims, transporting them to a place where they will be exploited, hiding them from authorities and receiving victims from other traffickers. So, why don’t the victims run away or say no? Because traffickers use different means…this includes threatening or forcing victims to do what they want. Abducting or deceiving the victims and abusing power. Sometimes traffickers promise small payments or benefits to get the victim to co-operate. And why are the traffickers doing this? The purpose of trafficking is exploitation. Traffickers take advantage of victims for their own profit or benefits. This is Trafficking in Persons! Every year around the world thousands of human trafficking cases are reported but many more go unnoticed. That’s because Human Trafficking is a hidden crime. Victims might be afraid to come forward, or we may not recognize the signs, even if it is happening right in front of us. We need to bring this crime out of the shadows. Take a stand against modern-day slavery and help combat this heinous crime by raising awareness of trafficking in person around the country. But we can’t do it alone, we need your help. Help us bring this crime out of the shadows and into the light!
