Valdez STOL 2022 - A Bush Pilot's Paradise

Thanks for watching, please subscribe! We attended the Valdez 2022 STOL Competition and Fly-in. Being a relatively new aircraft owner, this was my first time being able to fly into Valdez for the competition and fly-in. I had been before, but had never gotten the opportunity to actually fly there. After speaking with my pal Denny, he was gracious enough to show me the way down to Valdez for my first time. Fortunately, the weather was absolutely fantastic. After flying down, Denny flew me all the way back to Anchorage so that I could drive down from Anchorage with Rachael in the van. This was Rachael's first time ever being in Valdez, it's quite a long drive from Anchorage, around 5 1/2 hours. On the way, we stopped near Eureka, Alaska to camp for the night. It ended up snowing, leaving us quite frigged and ready to get on the move towards Valdez in the early morning. We enjoyed getting to explore Valdez and the wild life. The following day, we woke up early and flew to Hook Point, which is a beach on the Hinchinbrook Island, south of Cordova. This was my first beach landing, I hope to be able to do quite a bit more of those. After taking off from the beach, we went and landed in Cordova and the municipal airport, which is right in town. This was one of the coolest strips I had ever landed at, very beautiful. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay long so that we could arrive in time to see the STOL competition. The flight back to Valdez was super pretty. We ended up having some issues with the van that night, so we decided it was best if I ride down back to Anchorage with Rachael in the van. A few days later, Rachael's dad flew me back to Valdez so that I could pick-up my plane and fly it back to Anchorage. This was his first time flying to Valdez as well, we really enjoyed our trip!
