We spoke to Professor Mauriello about his work and life in Iran. He recounts his full-circle journey about how he came to teach in Iran at ATU as the only non-Iranian member of staff. He generously shares his many research interests (from the family of the prophet to muralism in Latin America and Iran!) and talks about how it’s important to remain dynamic in academia. He goes into detail about the surprises and challenges of teaching in Iran, but also shares the richness of his experience. Towards the end, we talked about how relations between academia in Iran and abroad can be improved and how sanctions hurt students and staff alike.
