I see her placing the small ball of white dough under a cloth to “rest,” carefully moving it into the baking tray and sliding it into the oven. Wood-fired stoves are unpredictable. She listened to the fire, waited for that exact, perfect moment when the bread had to come out. In those moments, time moved slowly — gently, quietly, perfectly.
