This week’s heavy music lineup feels like the entire Australian continent decided to put on MMA gloves, as we've got a ridiculous wave of incredible bands from down under crashing through Death Metal, Metalcore, Thrash Metal, Beatdown Hardcore, and throwback Deathcore with that unmistakable 2000s/MySpace/Slam grit. On top of the Aussie onslaught, we’ve got one of the best new Deftones/Loathe-inspired metalcore acts of the year and a 90s/2000s grunge-and-alt-rock–soaked metalcore band that’s been living rent-free in my head ever since the first playthrough. And Thrash? Thrash is having a full-scale renaissance this week. Blistering tempos, whiplash riffing, the whole nine yards.
