Past, Present and Future Economic Benefits of Sustainability

California Energy Commission chair David Hochschild believes L.A.’s long-term approach to urban development must be holistic and forward-looking, and must lean in to “unusual coalitions” at the level of governments in all U.S. states. In a keynote address, Hochschild emphasized the past, present and future economic benefits of aiming for sustainability. He reminded audiences how California has led the way in renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency codes and standards. Calling on attendees to engage in collaborative action in the face of political challenges, he said, “Think about the climate challenge that we’re in now.
