Dau Pagoda, considered the oldest pagoda in Vietnam, has a history dating back to around the 2nd century AD. This place was once the first Buddhist center of our country, an important intersection between Indian Buddhism and Northern Buddhism. The pagoda is not only a religious structure but also a witness to the history of the development of Vietnamese Buddhism. In the 6th century, Zen master Tini-da-luu-chi came to preside over it and founded the first Zen sect here. Dau Pagoda became a major center, where many eminent monks came to study and translate Buddhist scriptures. The current architecture of the pagoda bears the imprint of many periods, notably the Hoa Phong tower and the system of Front and Back houses. Dau Pagoda is also famous for its worship of the Four Dharmas (Phap Van, Phap Vu, Phap Loi, Phap Dien), reflecting the blend of indigenous beliefs and Buddhism.
