Dionisio Granados was a Spanish composer and guitarist, who performed and published under the name Denis Granado. Althoiugh very successful in his lifetime, his details are little known and his name doesn't figure in most list of composers. Born into a wealthy family in the province of Toledo, Spain, he entered the Madrid conservatory in 1864. In 1874 he formed the Orquesta de Trovadores Españoles (the Spanish troubadours). In 1876 he was appointed conductor of the Teatro de la Bolsa in Madrid. He then founded a student orchestra of guitars, lutes, and bandurrias called “Fígaro,” which toured Europe for some years with great success. He continued to lead this and similar orchestras, often consisting only of women. He recorded a 78 record of Potpourri des airs Espagnoles in Buenos Aires in 1915.
