Before his trade to the Yankees, Holmes was a semi-effective but unknown middle reliever for the Pirates, even starting a few games when he came up in 2018. His signature diving sinker and a biting curve began to play much better once the New York staff ironed out his mechanics - resulting in more strikeouts and far fewer walks. Over his time in the Bronx, he's sported a 1.71 ERA in 73.2 innings, a vast improvement from his 5.57 mark in Pittsburgh.
